I remember the first time I tried these peda: I totally fell in love with them!! They were delicious, aromatic and the mouth-feel was perfect! Seriously, you have to try these peda! They are so easy to make, which makes it even better! So let's get cooking!!
Microwave Peda Recipe Preparation Time: 20 Minutes (Approx)
Makes 12-15 Peda
INGREDIENTS
1/3 Cup (30g) Finely Ground Raw Almonds
1/3 Cup Milk
1/3 Cup (70g) Granulated Sugar
3 TBS Butter
1 Cup (80g) Milk Powder
1 -2 tsp Gulkand (Rose Petals in Syrup)
Dry Rose Petals to Decorate
METHOD
Grind the raw almonds into fine crumbs. Weigh them to make sure they still weigh 30g.
In a large bowl, add 1/3 Cup Milk, 1/3 Cup Sugar and 3 TBS Butter. Place this in the microwave and cook on high 1 minute at a time until it starts to thicken. This may take 5-6 minutes for this recipe. Stir as needed.
Tip: Make sure you use a large bowl, as you don't want the milk to overflow in the microwave while cooking.
Once the milk mixture has thickened, add 1 Cup Milk Powder and 1/3 Cup Ground Almonds and mix until it is a nice thick paste.
Let this cool to the touch.
Then use an ice cream scoop to make sure all the peda are the same size and shape the peda into flat balls. If you have a mould, use it to shape the peda. This will make plain peda.
If you want to stuff the peda, make sure you remove any crystallised gulkand or rose petal paste from the filling as this will ruin the peda. Use only a small amount of gulkand as it is very sweet and can get overwhelming. You just want to have a slight taste and aroma of the rose. Fill the peda as shown in the video and decorate with rose petals.
For shaping the peda, I used a mould I bought in an Indian shop. Use any mould of your choice or press the rose petals using a fork.
To store the peda, put them in an airtight container and place them in the fridge for longevity. They will last a few weeks. Enjoy them at room temperature.
Note: These peda made with fresh milk have a longer life than those made with cream. Definitely try this recipe and let me know how you enjoyed them!
